This
name in Quechua means “Gold cradle”, it is known as the
mysterious and overwhelming village pinned down in the
stunning landscape of the Vilcabamba mountain range over the
Apurimac canyon, which was covered by the dense forest
during lots of years. Choquequirao, was according to the
historians the refuge for the last Inca rebels of Vilcabamba.
This route will offer us a formidable walk which crosses a
variety of ecosystems where we will enjoy beautiful sights
over the snowy Vilcabamba mountain range. Going downwards in
this deep canyon with the Apurimac river flowing at the
bottom, and later we will ascend between the abundant
vegetation in the Choquequirao sector.
First day : Cusco – Saywite – Pampa
Waqcha
We will pick you up at your hotel with our bus, driving to
the Cachora village. Under the transport we will pass the
villages of Izcuchaca, Zurite and Limatambo, crossing the
mighty Apurimac river over the Cunyac bridge, and visit the
Saywite archaeological complex. We will ascend to Cachora
(2.910 m.a.s.l.) to camp in the surroundings of the village
enjoying the extraordinary sights of the Vilcabamba mountain
range emphasized by the snowy peak of Salkantay (6.271
m.a.s.l.).
Meals : Snack, lunch, teatime and dinner.
Second day : Pampa Waqcha –
Viewpoint - Rosalina
We will walk towards the Canyon of the Apurimac river,
observing agricultural faunas and the spectacular sight of
the Vilcabamba mountains. Descending into the deepness of
the Apurimac Canyon, one of the deepest and most beautiful
Canyon in the world. Whilst walking we will observe and
sense the changes of the climate and the vegetation.
As we arrive to the riverside we will set up our camp close
to the hanging bridge which unite both shores (1580 m.a.s.l.).
Meals : Snack, lunch, teatime and dinner.
Third day : Marampata-Choquequirao-Santa
Rosa
We will cross the hanging bridge over the Apurimac river and
start a demanding ascent towards the Santa Rosa sector
(2.290 m.a.s.l.) the vegetation here is abundant and the
climate is warm. When we arrive at the Marampata sector, the
sight of the magnificence and strategically Inca
Choquequirao village (3.110 m.a.s.l.) will be waiting us. It
is nailed to the mountains which dominates the impressive
landscape.
We will continue until we reach the Raqaypata sector where
we will camp and enjoy the beautiful nightfall.

Fourth day : Choquequirao –
Raqyapata – Santa Rosa
After we have crossed a short part of our course through the
covering vegetation characteristic for the mountain forrest,
we will ascend to the stunning Inca Choquequirau village
(3.110 m.a.s.l.) visiting the archaeological complex and its
surroundings. There will be spectacular sights of the
landscape circulating this fascinating village. In the
afternoon we will descend to our campsite which will be
situated in the Santa Rosa sector (2.290 m.a.s.l.).
Meals : Snack, lunch, teatime and dinner.
Fifth day : Santa Rosa – Rosalinda
– Cachora - Cusco
Descending towards the hanging bridge over the Apurimac
river, continuing the course to the Cachora village. Whilst
walking we will enjoy the attractive sights of the Apurimac
Canyon, the snow draped peak of Salkantay and likewise the
fabulous landscape in the area. From Cachora there we will
be transport to Cusco city. Where you will be transported
back to your hotel.
